Yes, please, do take in the title nice and slow. Done? Good. We all knew Namco Bandai would be adding new characters to the traditional fighter roster for the up-and-coming fourth iteration in the Soul Calibur series, but we never thought of the Star Wars cast as a possibility. Needless to say, we’re more than taken aback by Namco Bandai’s revelation that geeks’ favourites Darth Vader and Yoda are to feature in Soul Calibur IV.

Update: New Soul Calibur IV press materials from Namco Bandai have revealed that Yoda is to feature in the 360 version and Darth Vader in the PS3 version of the game. Sad news for those supporting the light side of the Force.

We’re sure you must be wondering why Darth Vader or Yoda, and why not the almighty Luke Skywalker? Well, the answer is quite simple: both the iconic villain and his Force-wielding archrival are fictional characters and as such don’t require the developer to pony up a little extra for added likeness (read: more licensing costs). This is not to say that there’s no chance of Luke or some other Star Wars human character being added to the roster, as Namco Bandai can still announce those further down the road. Time will tell …

Now, let’s get to the fun part: who would win - Yoda or Darth Vader?
