Playstation 3 sold without component cables?
IGN read the latest issue of Famitsu and they noticed that the Playstation 3 will ship with almost everything needed to start playing in High Definition. I said almost indeed, because you won’t be able to connect your console to a TV with a cable that allows High Definition images out of the box.
Whether you buy the 20 or 60 Gig version, they both come with a bunch of cables, but nothing that will let you play your games in a high resolution. A power cord, USB cable, ethernet cable and a standard composite AV cable are all the cables you’ll get. With the previous generation consoles we were used to this strategy, but they weren’t really designed to use in High Definition. The Playstation 2 and Xbox had some games that were capable of it but you’d had to buy a seperate component cable. In this era of High Definition gaming it seems a little odd not to supply a decent cable to fully profit from the high resolution imagery. If you have a Playstation 2 and are in the possesion of a component cable which I spoke of earlier, you can use that for your Playstation 3 as well.
I think that Sony should’ve at least shipped a Component cable with the console and I wouldn’t mind an HDMI cable as well. They’re so proud of the 1080P full HD graphics, but they don’t want to include a $10 cable to make this happen on your screen. Also keep in mind that this is from a Japanese magazine and the package might be slightly different in the US or Europe.

they did say that high definition gaming doesnt start till they say so. Obviously you cant start until you hand over yet more cash. Hope the internal power supply fairs better than the one in the ps2 at launch.
Go Sony! Go Sony!
HD for everyone!(but not straight out of the box when you buy a $600 console :s )
Sometimes I wonder who decides these things…
Whaahahhaha Sony is looking more stupid everyday… I start loving these guys if they’ll continue like this
Just beatifull
Giggle again.
They’ll see the bad press and decide to ship them after the fact saying that it was a part of the plan all along.
Oh dear
Not a clue!
Interesting article considering sony has already said that they are going to be shipping component with their system they however are NOT shipping HDMI.
Either way, with all the hype and the price it should be with an HDMI at the very least.
Why would they include cables for HD when they would be useless to alot of the people buying PS3? Besides if you want a great HD pic you dont use the cheap Sony cables, you buy some aftermarket with better performance.
An HDMI is a digital cable, you ain’t going to get huge differences in clarity because of price, its either on or off “digital”.
Why would they include cables for HD?
Becuase the “games console” (not counting all the other gimmicks half the other gamers won’t need but your getting charged for) costs an unholy amount of money so they can at least provide the cables for HD gaming to begin at their say so.
And if you disagree with that then perhaps I will need to send round a gigantic crab to deal you MASSIVE DAMAGE!
this is really bad news but at least if u still kept ur ps2 compoment cables they will work with the ps3 so some of u should be saved
These are only rumours ppl.Wait till it is launched and then decide wat is true n wat is false.Right now v can say that PS3 is doing wat it shud be.Ps3 will come with component cable for sure, n I have a feeling they(Sony) have a lot of surprises up their sleeves for the Gr8 PS3 launch.
WOw….I definitely am not a fan of the 360 but they did it way better when it comes to component hd cables. I definitely thought sony would have been way smarter than this…..
how much more does this add to cost? $50? I was never planning on buying a ps3 because of its lack of games and the same ps2 controller with no rumble and because it overheats. Now that it has no hd cables made another reason for me not to buy it.
So you guys are all talking about a system that is still not on the shelves. What the hell do you know, when all of this information is second hand. So quick to judge and assume… Did you ever stop to think that famitsu is reporting on a JAPAN only package to compliment the JAPAN only lower pricing? You all make me sick…
wow . . . I have read a lot of posts all over about this console “war”, it is just games people, relax, no one is stupid for buying whatever system they like, and I am a 360 owner but there is no way ps3 doesn’t dominate component cables or not and they are only like 20 bucks. Everyone relax and enjoy the sweet ass games, the consoles are not going anywhere, there will be no dreamcast from sony or microsoft RELAX and to all those buying a PS3, good luck getting one it is going to be crazy
ok, I am not a fan of sony. I am buying the wii and own a 360. But because I don’t like sony doesn’t mean I’ll dis on it. The PS3 has some problems, but what system doesn’t at first? This is odd that sony would do this, especially since the 360 shipped with them but still, it’s a nice system. I’m not going to buy it, but it doesn’t mean I have to try to make it look bad to make myself feel better. Fanboys SUCK. Don’t dis on people because of their opinion.
You DO know that you can use the same component cable for the PS3 as the one for the PS2 right?
Why in Gods name would Sony eat it on a cable you should already have? Anyone who has an HDTV and a PS2 has everything they need for the PS3. BTW, HDMI cable can be found for less than $20. So, for those of you screaming bloody murder, go take a look at the price for a chargenplay kit for the 360 wireless controller.
Grow up, people, noone gives a crap about the cable not being included.
Which is fine if Sony only want the people that owned a PS2 to purchase the PS3. Not a great way to increase your market share though.
The point is that this along with a lot of other Marketing faux pas is that they are alienating more and more consumer groups as they get closer to release.
