Metal Gear Solid compilation due in March
To whet your appetite for the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Konami will be releasing a compilation of the first three Metal Gear Solid titles in the Metal Gear Solid: Essential Collection pack, which will retail for $US29.99.
The pack will contain the original version of Metal Gear Solid and “director’s cut” versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, as well as some lovely cover art from concept artist Yoji Shinkawa.
Substance adds some extra 300 VR missions, 200 alternate missions, 5 “Snake Tales” missions and a skateboarding mini-game to Metal Gear Solid 2.
Fancy a bit of a warm up before MGS4?
Subsistence adds a new camera, the English versions of the mobile phone ports of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (the latter of which had never been officially released in English), and the previously Europe-exclusive European Extreme difficulty, camouflage patterns and extra Snake vs. Monkey missions given to PAL gamers as a result of the game’s lengthy delays. It does not include the Metal Gear Online or Existence bonus discs, however.
It’s quite a bit different from the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Collection released in Japan. That compilation added Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Saga, put Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 on their own discs, and had the original versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 instead of the feature enhanced re-releases.
Still, if you’re wondering what all this Metal Gear fuss is about, then March will be the time to try it out.

Can’t wait for MGS4 and haven’t played MGS1 in years, even though i have MGS2 and 3 i’ll probably get the pack unless they put MGS4 in the classics on PSN
sweet maybe the same pack will come out the year after for the 360…
before everyone starts bitchin look at the history… it’s always comeout a year later for all the other consoles.
Is it capable of being on the 360? kojima productions hav said countless times the 360 can’t handle it unless they make some major cuts

Its a pity MGS4 is one of the only reasons for most people to buy a PS3, only reason i’ll get one, and only reason for a LOT of people.
I’d need more than just this to buy a PS3.

Ooh, I may have to buy this. I had Snake Eater, but not Subsistence, so I guess this gives me an excuse to get it with the other two (even though I just got Substance for Xbox at a Blockbuster clearance… but I can give that to my roomie).
