Bully Jack Thompson bullied by Bully
Jack Thompson thought he wouldn’t really like Rockstar’s game Bully so he went to court with this. He asked judge Ronald Friedman to restrict sales of Bully in advance of the game’s shipment next Tuesday. At that point nobody had played the game, especially Jack Thompson so it’s pretty weird to try to prevent a game from reaching the stores without even playing it.
A reporter from Destructoid was present during the trial and even had a chance to talk to Jack Thompson. He wrote a rather long story split up in three parts, but you can find the satisfying conclusion here. At one point during this trial, Thompson, the judge and a guy from Take Two went to the Judge’s quarters where no public was allowed. No naughty things went on there, just a screening of the game. They went over 2 hours of gameplay, and the Take Two employee demonstrated the most violent ‘good stuff’ to give the judge a fair impression of what to expect. The final statement of judge Friedman was: “there’s nothing in the game that you wouldn’t see on TV every night. He added that he wouldn’t allow his children to play this game but that shouldn’t mean that the game won’t ship. The case could be appealed but Thompson had no interest in doing so because the verdict would come after the game was already in stores.

As it should be. Well done, Judge Friedman.
