SIXAXIS is crap?
The guys over at IGN got their hands on a debug Playstation 3 unit and played around with it for a while. The bloated piece of text doesn’t really say anything really interesting up to the part where they start whining about the new SIXAXIS controller, they don’t like it.
While it has to be said that it’s not the final controller it should be near completion and it’s unlikely they’ll change much. The editors at IGN found it to feel cheap, plasticky, uncomfortable and disconcertingly light. While the Playstation 2 controller was criticized in the beginning, over a 100 million users got used to it and this new SIXASIX controller is a lot similar to its predecessor right? It is, but they’ve added a couple of extras, for example the new L and R shoulder triggers which appear to be very uncomfortable. They’re placed unnaturally low and have no grooves to keep your fingers in place. Combined with the fact that they offer almost no resistance, IGN’s conclusion is that the controller isn’t up to par with the rest of the new cutting-edge hardware.
More worrying still, the newly-designed lower L and R shoulder triggers feel more like they belong on an early controller prototype than the near-final model. Replicating the 360 pad, rather than being simple shoulder-mounted buttons, the triggers are now hinged horizontally along the controller, with pressure forcing them inward along the bottom - like triggers then, really. Trouble is, they’re placed almost unnaturally low meaning we found ourselves operating them by jamming our fingers in between the hinges to apply pressure, rather than using the buttons themselves. What’s more, the triggers are convex, with no grooves to keep your fingers in place - an issue further compounded by their smooth finish, offering no resistance against your finger tips. Invariably we found our digits slipping off with the triggers snapping back to their default position. Bah.
Did you like your Playstation 2 controller or do you perhaps prefer one from a different brand? Let us know in the comment section below.

I personally found the first party ps2 controllers the best and I am having the same sentiment towards the 360 controllers as well, I just hope Sony doesn’t shaft its consumers in the wireless department like Microsoft is by not licensing out the wireless.
I think the 360 is by far the best controller so far.
I have to crack my wrists after holding a PS2 pad.
Cracking wrists must be bad.
Yeah I personally enjoy the 360 controller the best my GF prefers the ps2 controller and presumably the ps3 as she doesn’t like the shape of the 360 controller.
Dual Shock is slightly smaller in the grips, so might be a tad more fit for female hands.
I think I like the Gamecube controller most if I had to choose between controllers from the last-gen series of consoles. At this point I really prefer the Xbox 360 controller, but I want to hold the Wii and PS3 controller first before my final judgement
i loved GC controllers!! Rival, it looks like we are the only ones.
Logitech PS2 wireless controller for massive damage. Its analogs are wonderful - best Katamari controller ever.
Yeah I gotta say the 360 controller is the best so far. It reminds me a little of the Dreamcast controller, the PS2 was a little two blocky for me.
The Wavebird, and the 360 controllers are my favorite. Very comfortable!
