Following the success of THQ’s previous Avatar releases on Nintendo DS, Wii and PlayStation 2, The Last Airbender and The Burning Earth, the company has greenlighted a third console entry into the videogame spin-off of the immensely popular Nickelodeon cartoon series.
As revealed by IGN’s Wii channel, it has now been officially confirmed that the publisher’s development team is well underway on the new game, which is to be called Avatar: The Last Airbender - Into the Inferno. This latest product will follow the animated series’ third season on Nickelodeon, is being worked on again by THQ Australia and is due out on Nintendo DS, Wii and PlayStation 2 this coming October.
THQ stated the following about the game’s official announcement:
“When the Fire Nation devises a plot to use the power of Sozin’s Comet to rain devastation on the rest of the world, the fate of the world lies in the hands of only a few young, brave heroes – Aang and his friends.”
Rather than merely porting the PlayStation 2 edition to Wii this time, though, the studio is really focusing its efforts into ensuring the control system is perfectly suited to take full advantage of the motion sensitivity on offer, as can be seen in the video clip below:

Just as with the previous game, Aang has to master all of the four elements, Earth, Fire, Air and Water, in order to battle against the Fire Nation. As well as including traditional style fighting tasks, Aang now has to pass across treacherous flying stages where players can steer gliders through the world. And for Nintendo DS owners there is a special treat in that there will be a unique ’super-deformed’ form of presentation used that is to mimc the appearance of mini-episodes that have aired in the past.
