Tony Hawk’s Project 8 uses the tilt feature

The guys over at Gamespot got their hands on the new Tony Hawk game on the Playstation 3. The article explains most games just use just a simple implementation of the tilting feature if they use it at all. Tony Hawk’s Project 8 is one of the first game to take this feature more serious.

What’s new in this latest installment is the “nail the trick” mode, where you’re able to do all kinds of fancy stuff in slow-motion. When you’re playing the Xbox 360 version for example, you’re controlling your character by using both analog sticks, which each stick corresponding to one of your skater’s feet. When done right you can branch off into different tricks. That’s the old-fashioned way, with the tilt controls enabled you move the controller around to do the tricks. This doesn’t control the skater’s feet anymore but the spin of the board.

If you don’t like this at all, there’s a possibility to tone down the sensitivity, use the feature only for balancing or even turn it off entirely since the SIXAXIS controller has two analog sticks as well. All in all it seems like Gamespot seemed to like this quite a bit.

I think this is going to take the Tony Hawk Pro Skating franchise to a whole new level of competitive play. I can’t wait to get my hands on a PS3 and this game.
