On the News for Gamers forum, a thread appeared where someone claims that Sony’s planning to add Playstation 2 titles to the Playstation Store. Normally we’d obviously say that it’s fake, but the guy who started the thread even supplied a picture taken from a cell phone. Is this Sony’s response to all the complaints from gamers around the world with a non-backwards compatible PS3?

The weird thing is, that the Playstation Store is the same on every console (at least in the same region) so it doesn’t matter if it’s a launch console or one from last week. How is it possible that a unit without any backwards compatibility capabilities is able to play Playstation 2 titles. Has Sony finally perfected its emulator for these game so that it’s fast enough or do they have another trick up their sleeve. We don’t really know, but according to the thread we’ll have to wait until E3 for the announcement and then a bit longer for the actual release.

On the photo you can see several games, most of them are (near) launch titles like Smuggler’s Run, Red Faction, SSX, Fantavision, and even Metal Gear Solid 2. I can’t shake the feeling that something’s not right here however. It’s very hard for Sony to convince people to shell out money for a game they already own and tell them the disc version, which is probably exactly the same won’t work.
