[E32008] Wanted curving its way onto consoles
Anybody who was fortunate enough to see one of the Summer’s better action movies, Wanted, must have mused over the thought of it being a videogame at least once throughout the movie. You can’t deny that the fictional story and all the special abilities, like bullet curving and slowing down time, found in the movie beg to be converted into a videogame form. That’s the potential Swedish developer GRIN, also known to be hard at work on Bionic Commando, has decided to cash in on with the announcement of a Wanted videogame in cooperation with Warner Bros.
Unlike other movie-to-game adaptations, the story of the Wanted game will pick up right after the end of the film. In spite of that, it is not considered a true sequel to the film story, as the developer sees it as “Wanted 1.5,” meaning it will only continue the story of the comics and film to a certain degree. The game’s talented protagonist Wesley is on a hunt for the truth about his mother which involves engaging in a bloody killing spree.
Much of the gameplay of the Wanted game revolves around an innovative cover system that encourages the player to switch from cover point to cover point. The more you do so, the more you build up your “Assassin Time” meter which allows you to slow down time for easier targeting and make use of the unique bullet effects, like bullet curving. Players who like to take a stealthy approach on taking out their enemies will be able to do so as well, thanks to Wesley’s stealth assassination moves.
Said Bill Kispert, Vice President and General Manager, Interactive, Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group:
“Wanted is a film with a fantastic visual style, an in-your-face attitude and edge-of-your-seat action sequences, and moviegoers around the world have resoundingly embraced it. From the time we read the script and saw the film’s pre-visual material, it was clear that Wanted was a powerful property – one that was well poised to deliver an engaging gaming experience. We look forward to working closely with the film’s creative team to extend Wanted’s mythology and to expand the story behind the Fraternity of Assassins.”
There’s no firm release date as of time being, besides “later this year,” and the game is slated for release on “current-generation consoles and PC.”
