LittleBigPlanet: users to charge for their own content?
LittleBigPlanet is one of our most anticipated PS3 titles and after another strong showing for the game at E3 2008, we’re getting more and more details of what we can expect when the game eventually launches. But could one of those features so users being allowed to charge for their own content?
Now this is interesting. According to SCEE President David Reeves, LittleBigPlanet may allow users to charge each other for content they’ve created. Comparing the system to that of eBay and Itunes, Reeves suggested that users could set their own prices and that the game could really rake in the cash for users. Speaking to PS3 Fanboy, Reeves said:
“What we’re trying to do with LittleBigPlanet is almost iTunes meets eBay in the sense that once an individual or a developer has qualified by producing certain levels or certain add-ons, they will then be able in the future to exchange these and make money out of them […] Eventually, it’s feasible that you might well see the first LittleBigPlanet millionaire! […] Even if you charge less than one euro, it doesn’t take many downloads if you’ve got a really strong LittleBigPlanet level for people to be able to make money. It’s a great way for people to show others what they can do.” This may give aspiring level designers a chance to not only show off their creativity, but turn their skills into profit.”
Gamers making money from making games in a game? We never thought we’d see the day! This certainly is an interesting development and opens up all sorts of possibilities for a title that is already looking hugely promising. But what do you think? Would you be willing to pay for content made by fellow users and furthermore, would you look to make money out of your own levels? Let us know by commenting below.
