Uncharted 2 fills 25GB and could never work on Xbox360

Uncharted 2 is set to be a showcase for the power of the PlayStation 3, Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog talks about the power of Blu-ray, and why the game could never be made for the Xbox360.

Balestra Commented in an Interview with Arstechnica:

“I guarantee that this game couldn’t be working on XBox 360. It would be impossible. I’m 100 percent sure of this.” Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog, spoke with Arstechnica about the technology behind Uncharted 2, the hugely anticipated follow-up to one of the PS3’s best games: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. “First of all, we fill the Blu-ray 100 percent, we have no room left on this one. We have 25GB of data; we’re using every single bit of it.”

“…You can play the entire game without loading. We don’t require an install. We’re doing all the post-processing effects on the SPUs [Synergistic Processing Units]. The quality of the depth of field we have, you can’t do that on the Xbox.”

“Sometimes people ask us about what is the one thing [we improved] on Uncharted 2, and it’s hard to answer. We’re trying to increase the quality of the game, so we’re design-driven. No matter what it takes, we’ll find a way to figure it out, to squeeze what we need to squeeze out of [the system] to make it happen.”

The game picks up a couple of years after the events of Drake’s Fortune. Similar to the previous story, Nathan Drake’s (Voiced by Nolan North) new adventure revolves around an unsolved historical mystery – this time surrounding Marco Polo and his doomed voyage home from China in 1292. After spending almost 20 years in the court of the emperor Kublai Khan, Marco Polo departed with 14 ships and over 600 passengers and crew – but when he arrived at his destination a year and a half later, only one ship remained, and only 18 of the passengers had survived. Although Marco Polo described almost every other aspect of his journeys in minute detail, he never revealed what happened to the ships that were lost.

Uncharted 2 is set to be one of the biggest titles to date for the PS3 system taking advantage of the combination of Blu-ray and hard drive for the ultimate gaming experience.

Expected release is October 13th 2009

Oh dear, i am sooooo gutted. Oh wait, no i’m not, as i have plenty of games to keep me very entertained on my xbox.

And if they are squeezing everything they can out of the ps3 for this, then where does the ps3 go after that?

I think if this game had come out sooner, it would have def helped ps3 sales. But with everyone being pretty screwed for money,i can’t see it being worth the money.

And as we can see by the amount of people leaving comments on here, there aren’t a massive amount of ps3 owners who care either.

The news is read by quite a few thousand people, and used in other news sources for people with blogs, rss feeds - we don’t want fan-boy comments. 0 is better your 1

Fair enough, but i still don’t think this game will save the ps3. All of my mates who have ps3’s only have them because they use them solely as blu ray players. I’m thinking of getting a ps3 slim as they look quite nice, and a bit cheaper than before, but i’ll prob only use it as a blu ray player.
