Facebook App coming to PS3

Sony has confirmed that a Facebook application will soon be made available on the PS3 since yesterday a gaming blog posted screen shots taken from the PlayStation website which showed a Facebook link on the PlayStation Network.

Besides the appearance of Facebook on PS3, the images also show the ability to change “gamer card” colour and view thumbnails of photos in a grid layout. Sony had quickly taken the images down and claimed that they were posted by mistake. However, the firm’s UK PR office has since told Eurogamer that more information on the Facebook service will be released “very shortly”.

So with Netflix and now a dedicated Facebook Application, finally PS3 gamers could soon be getting the same quality of service online that Xbox360 gamers are getting right now. If we protest much longer we could even see the likes last.fm coming our way.

The PS3 is finally trying to compete seriously with the Xbox 360, and is making progress.

This is about the lamest news story since hearing about the facebook app on the iPhone. I use facebook on the iPhone before the app and I use facebook on my PS3 before the app. They both have browsers. I can do myspace, youtube or any other browser specific thing. Finally the 360 is trying to catch up. Add a browser and bluray player and remove pay for play with the 360 limited dedicated servers. Medal of honor on the wii allowed more players online then the 360. Lame. Dedicated servers mean game company has to deal with Microsoft’s server limitations.

mmm tell me if I am wrong, but didnt everyone with PS3 Modern Warfare had no online time for ages since the people Sony pay to manage the online servers didn’t allow for the mass amount of expected players. Where as Xbox360 is a get-what-you-pay-for service and no one had problems. The sooner Sony start charging people to play online the better, because when it becomes a dedicated pay per use service, Sony may take it more seriously and give people a better online experience.

Those who want freebies always get crap

I agree Deacon, having said that i paid my £40 for XboxLive for the 4th time and as of yet (9 months in) i haven’t played a single bloody game on it, come March i will be cancelling, if a game comes out that i might play online then i will get 1 month subs.
If Sony start charging i will begrudgingly pay, if it means master servers for games though i would be a lot happier.
