Playstatic’s E3 2010 Expectations

With E3 2010 almost upon us, gamers’ expectations are no doubt ramping up with each coming day, all the while publishers and developers from all over the globe are working around the clock to showcase the latest they have to offer early next week. Before the internet is set ablaze with wave after wave of new media content, we decided to share with you our expectations of what’s going down from June 15, the day E3 kicks off, until June 17, the day the convention center’s doors close.

Sony may not realise it, but E3 could prove the turning point they need to finally get access to my wallet. Up until a few years back, I simply didn’t think that the system had enough exclusives to warrant a purchase, but that was then. God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 have recently changed my mind; Gran Turismo 5, Infamous 2 and LittleBigPlanet2 look set to convince me further.

But it’s with the PlayStation Move that Sony could truly win my heart. I have spent many a year supporting the technology of the WiiMote and Nintendo have repeatedly let me down. Sony only need to deliver a strong line-up of Move based games, and I’m sold. Whether they can or not, time will tell – just no more bowling games please.

I’m just going to come straight out and admit that I don’t own a Playstation 3, only the Xbox 360. However, the more years go by, the more my interest grows in Sony’s console. This year just might be the year my 360 gets company on my desk. The reason is quite clear, as you can imagine. In addition to the plethora of superb PS3 titles released in the past years, such as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War 3, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and Infamous to name a few, Sony is set to roll out a bunch more, the highlights among these being Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, and Infamous 2. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Not only is Sony pioneering 3D gaming on consoles, but it’s also putting out the motion-sensing controller, Playstation Move. While the reception of 3D games has been mixed at best so far, the Move controller has been met with generally positive feedback from the industry, especially since Sony’s Move unveiling at this year’s GDC. Now, I don’t intend to slap down the cash for a 3D-enabled TV any time soon – hell, I don’t even own a full-HD TV yet – but I do see myself getting the Move alongside a new PS3 at some point in the near future.

According to the overworked rumour mill, Playstation Portable’s successor is to be revealed for the first time at Sony’s press conference and if the company is actually serious about supporting it with tons of games this time around, I’m all for it. That and price it competitively and Sony just might have a chance at holding a candle to Nintendo’s offerings. The reason I don’t mention any of the upgrades, apart from the fact it’s all speculation for the time being, is that I think it’s a no-brainer that Sony won’t disappoint us in that area.

In terms of surprises, I’m expecting the company to fully unveil Infamous 2 and Motorstorm 3, images of which have very recently been leaked online, show off some more of The Last Guardian, and I’m sure Resistance 3 will be officially announced as well, with Move support and all that ala SOCOM 4. Additionally, I think EA will finally announce Mass Effect 2 for Playstation 3, with all the downloadable content packaged in. Overall, I doubt Sony will let us down at this year’s E3.

This is the year for Sony to make their “Move”. (Apologies for the bad pun) Move is the biggest ticket item coming out of their camp. We all saw the peripheral last year, and then again at GDC. It still has some stigmas attached, even if the result at GDC was positive. Sony will have to pull out something show stopping to get anyone really excited.

Many have talked about a PSP2, and there could be a mention about their newest handheld, but wait till E3 2011 before we see are able to get our hands on it. Sony has been disappointed with the low numbers of the PSPgo sold, that was unveiled last year, a price cut could very well be in the cards. A couple of weeks ago , they unveiled a PSPgo and 10 free downloadable games package coming to the UK soon. This should also be available in the US.

LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, and Call of Duty Black Ops will be the most interesting titles coming to the PS3. The following that LittelBigPlanet has, it will overshadow most of the titles. Grand Turismo 5 could also race in, but Sony will have to hope Move does well or they may be at the bottom of the pile at E3.

Enough about what we think! Sound off your expectations in the comments below!

ivan_psp, even the most devoted 360 fanboy knows that the ps3 offers more machine value for money, it’s just that they enjoy the 360 games like halo3 and gears of war more, in the same way that you enjoy ps3 exclusives more.

Anyway, I this is another great article, and best of all, it is very honest!
I am truly looking forward to this e3. I hope both ps3 and 360 won’t disappoint :D And I hope you do more articles like this :-D
