I run my ps3 with hdmi and have since day one and have NEVER had any issues with playing a blu-ray movie and the same goes for DVDs. The patch must just add some option to allow you to have one output set up for games and the other for DVD/Blu-rays and not allow for playback itself as that already works over HDMI. Erm.
