Oblivion Hits Publishing Complications
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles is coming to the PS3, but there is a problem. Just who is going to publish it? Let the bickering commence.
2K Games published Oblivion for PC and XBOX 360, so they are handling the publication of Shivering Isles on those two platforms. Ubisoft co-publishes the Knights of the Nine expansion with Bethesda (the developer) in Europe, and Ubisoft is co-publishing Oblivion on PS3. Still following?

According to CVG, the situation is slightly complicated. “UK sources close to both publishers” said the situation is “slightly complicated”. There are worries that this could have implications for the future of the expansion on the PS3. Just who owns/will own/is willing to pay the most to own, the rights to publish the game is all up in the air at the moment and we’re not likely to find out for a while.
Hopefully these problems won’t delay the release of Shivering Isles on the PS3 or worse remove the Oblivion project from the PS3 altogether. However, there is a lot of money at stake and the rights to sell one of the hottest franchises on the PS3 might cause a few problems yet. We’ll keep you posted.
