PS3 Owners Report Blu-ray Problems After 1.5 Upgrade
Now this is worrying. After a recent system firmware update on the PS3 (to version 1.5) there have been an unusually high number of reports of intermittent playback freezes during Blu-ray movies and some games have been posted to Sony’s PlayStation 3 forum. Worried? Read on…
According to a report, tests run by those commenting on the problem have noticed the bugs appear to eliminate Blu-ray discs themselves as the cause of these freezes. For the most part they are only short lived and soon go away again, but this is a bit of a concern for users. So basically, nothing is wrong with the disks.
A lot of users reporting the problem appear to be having trouble using the wireless controller for navigating the BD, and wireless connection to the Internet. Sony are yet to respond to these issues.

The key purpose of the 1.5 firmware patch was apparently to get rid of scaling problems experienced by users when playing backwards compatible software. The firmware also shoves in some new support for online functionality. Understandably, some people are getting rather annoyed with the problem:
“We shelled out $600 big ones for this console and were loyal to buy the console as soon as we could get our hands on one,” one owner wrote on Sony’s forum. “We should not have to rig the PS3 by making sure we have our controllers off and the wireless setting is set to work only on Tuesdays and the sun has to be shining and it can’t be colder than 30 degrees outside then our Blu-Ray reader should work properly.”
No solution or fix has been made available yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see what Sony suggest…when they get round to it. Stay tuned.

I do seem to remember many arguments with the PS3 Fanboys on how they believed that the PS3 unlike the 360 would launch without issues and no system problems like freezing.
Sniff Sniff…. Is that bullshit I smell?
I have experienced this freezing. I have Netflix and have watched 3 Blu-ray movies since the 1.5 update. The first two I had zero problems with. The other night, I watched “Omen 666″. Three or four times during the movie, it froze for about 5 seconds. The first time I thought I had hit pause, but the remote was not in my hand. I had remembered hearing about this problem. So, figured that is what it was.
“[W]e’ll just have to wait and see what Sony suggest…when they get round to it.”
Corporations are referred to using the singular conjugation of “to be.” A corporation *is* an entity, and *it* decides things. Legally, a corporation is considered an individual, and grammatically it is a single entity as well.
Yeah when i posted this bit of news my comment was
Why do Sony keep kicking themselves in the teeth? I think they will soon nail it with another update. Having said that at least they haven’t bricked any machines like a certain other manufacturer managed to do with a system update, people seem to forget very quickly.
so glad i got a 360, fck sony
Big Deal. The next day Sony fixed the problem with the 1.51 update.
At least Sony is not having Hardware Problems like the 360, and that the problems can be fixed in a few days.
Nah, using the plural is correct in British English. It’s used all over the media, quite common really. A company being a plural made up of individuals, y’see.
@ The_Glovner
I hope you realize a simple software problem, that can easily be fixed by a patch aka software upgrade, can’t be compared to hardware problem, where a system crashes from over heating, and you get the black screen of death etc..
Newbie.
