Pink Playstation 2 down under
Sony’s plan for world domination is about to include female gamers in Australia as well. A pink version of the Playstation 2 will be released there to attract more young teen girl gamers to the console. The whole package will include one console, two Dual Shock controllers and a memory card (8MB), all in pink of course.
Sony must’ve seen how successful the pink Nintendo DS is and in combination with games like Singstar which can possibly attract young female gamers, this could be a good move. The pink Playstation 2 was already available in other parts of the world since November last year and why they’re releasing it in Australia right now is unknown. The Playstation 3 is about to be released in Australia and this could potentially hurt the sales a little (which young teen girl doesn’t have $999 AUD to spend these days?).

“Games such as SingStar have really heightened the appeal of the PlayStation 2 for a whole new diverse audience, who may not previously have considered themselves ‘gamers’,” said Raoul Bedford, SCE Aust. Director of Marketing.
“PlayStation is all about fun and with more and more people, especially women, enjoying a night in with the PlayStation 2, the introduction of this pink version gives them a new and colourful option when purchasing the console.”
A price hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll soon find out once it’s released March 15th.
