Porn in your Home apartment

In a question and answer session with Phil Harrison, the day after his keynote GDC speech announcing Playstation Home, unofficial Playstation blog ThreeSpeech got hold of the man for some ‘serious questioning’. That is, if you call standard questions regarding pornography and children ‘serious’.

Of the first four questions, three seemed to get under Phil Harrison’s skin;

Q [ThreeSpeech]: In terms of some of the actions you can do within the world, presumably there’s no adult content there?

PH: Well, it’s absolutely deliberate that there is no physical impact between characters, between avatars. We are going to have animations that will allow you to shake somebody’s hand or to have some social touch but in a very, you know, appropriate way. But no, we’re not going to have ‘those’ kind of animations that I’m imagining that you’re thinking about.

And then, prompting a fairly entertaining response from Phil;

Q: What about uploading porn from your PS3’s hard-disk to your private space? And maybe inviting people you don’t necessarily know back and them being slightly offended by what they see, then going to a moderator?

PH: Well I’m disappointed that you would use those as the first questions. I think Home should be used for a much wider and more beneficial scope than that, but I think that people can express their creativity inside Home in a wide variety of ways and it’s not necessarily for us to dictate what that should be. However, if somebody feels uncomfortable about an encounter on Home, it’s very easy for them to ban that person from their friends list…

Q: So if people offend you, you’ll be able to blacklist them?

PH: Your friends list is here just the same way as it is on the PlayStation network, it appears inside the virtual PSP and you can make all the same changes to it.

Essentially, there’s nothing to stop someone, even a child using the standard adult avatar, from being invited to someone’s apartment and then being shown porn against there consent. However, it is possible to black list the offender from your friends list following the event - or make them your bestest friend! The concern is for the first time offenders. So, as the Wii is the portal to porn so is the Playstation 3 seemingly the tool of the degenerate, sex-obsessed, porn-showing weirdo that likes to scare small children.

I don’t know about you, but my Home apartment is definitely going to have some porn available, possibly on the wall or running on my Sony Bravia television. In fact, following the launch of the PS3 last night, there’s already some loaded on the hard drive, just to see if I could. This doesn’t however mean I’m going to go corrupting young children.

Still, thanks to ThreeSpeech, it’s nice to know I could - at least once.

yeah xbox360 should have dvd sharing with your friends list shouldn’t it…you put a film in and you can invite others to see it, like what you put in streams out or something to them..

I hadn’t thought about it like that you know.

Give new meaning to ‘girls night in’ or ‘boys night in’, don’t even have to leave your own houses to watch a flick together!

the only way to share porn at the minute is through video chat with cam pointing at TV with mic near speakers…

yeah but isn’t that how home works on the PS3 - u invite others to view your videos so it must stream out to them that way. The console probably downscales the video a bit…perhaps…
