Gran Turismo HD gets force feedback
A couple of months ago we told you that Sony wouldn’t implement force feedback or rumble anymore because they considered it last generation features, but Gran Turismo HD 2.0 begs to differ. It seems that racing wheels from the PS2 will now work on the PS3 with full support for the vibration feature. It was about time they realized the community really wanted this.
Apparently only Europe has received the 2.0 update but we’re pretty sure the rest of the world will soon enjoy their vibrators as well. But it’s still quite unfortunate that you won’t be able to enjoy both motion sensors and rumble at the same time because the Sixaxis doesn’t support it. However, since Sony and Immersion struck a business deal a couple of weeks ago, this might give us a little hope that we’ll be seeing a new version of the Sixaxis sometime.

Yeah this works great with my PS2 force feedback wheel. I haven’t played a Gran Turismo game for a good long while, i had completely forgotten how it blows EVERY other driving game into the water. If this was deemed ‘not good enough for Next Gen’ then boy i can not wait for GT5. AWESOME.
‘Tis a shame though, that the AI in every GT game was complete and utter wank, might look good but in all reality as a single player game was a complete pile of shit. Forza might not have run at 60 fps on the original Xbox, but atleast the AI was something to be desired. And as you probably know the AI is the biggest load on the processor.
Therefore, GT does not blow anything into the water, GT just BLOWS…
You don’t need good AI to make a good driving game, it’s the handling model that counts. Ever played Colin McRae Rally? were was the AI in that? ohh it never had any AT ALL, is that a shit game as well? Same goes for GT all you need is the clock, the handling model is good enough on it’s own. I understand GT is not everyone’s cup of tea but to say it blows shows your narrow minded argument is nothing but fanboy’ism.
Not at all, I loved the very first incarnation and played them right up to GT3 A-Spec/GT Concept. My personal gripe with the game is that it is supposed to be a RACING game, there is more than 1 car on the track.
To have the computer controlled cars move in exactly the same lines race after race is, in all honesty, quite boring and repetetive. I am far from a fan boy, I have owned virtually every home system available in the UK, and at present in my house I have 3 DS’s 2 Gamecubes an Xbox a PS2 and a 360, whilst my wife is buying me a PSP for my birthday in May, so to call me a fanboy you couldn’t have been farther from the truth. The comment about Forza was put in there to create an example of how AI is supposed to react.
As for your comment about Colin McRae Rally not having any AI, it is null and void. You don’t need AI in a Rally game as there is only 1 car on the track at a time, you do not need any. Just an algorithm to compute the other drivers times based on their real life counterparts and include some minor penalties for their time etc. It didn’t need AI to be a playable game, you are only in essence creating a time. I like to get into a racing game and feel like I am battling with opponents to take 1st place, which sadly, GT doesn’t give me, as good looking as the game is and however realistic the car physics are, GT just ain’t about racing. Possibly why they called it the driving simulator and not the racing simulator.
I think you missed read my reply. My main point is you said GT blows when, and lets be honest here, just about every racing game gets compared to GT as it has set the benchmark. Granted the AI does like to hold it’s racing line, but then again i would be disappointed if it tried to go round every corner somewhere other than the racing line. Plus if GT blows then why have you played 75% of them? couldn’t of been that bad.
PS. @freduk i am a fanboy but only of driving games and will be buying Forza2 the moment it comes out.
I haven’t mis-read any reply, just replied with what was necessary going by what was posted. Your main point was in saying that GT basically destroys every driving game out there, where in the actual truth of the mater, it doesn’t. Driving/Racing games have been far superior on PC now since before GT was ever thought of, the only reason that all car games get compared to GT is because it was the first of its kind on console, also I don’t see PC racing games get compared to GT, it only happens for console racers.
My main point overall is just to say that you were wrong in saying that GT blows everything out of the water, whereas it’s been done better elsewhere.
Also, the reason that I have played 75% of the series is because its main rival, Forza, was released after GT Concept, but before GT4 and as I had heard from reliable sources that the AI in GT4 was no different to the AI in GT3, hence the reason why I ended up going with Forza and not continuing my purchases with the GT series. That will change soon however, as I like my portable gaming aswell as my home machine gaming, and I might just buy GT portable when it comes out on PSP.
Couldn’t agree more about the PC argument, which is why i said ‘just about’ but then the only PC games that can compare are ALL SimBin’s GT series of games (which i think i read are coming to the 360) they are totally excellent games, but i haven’t enjoyed them as much as the Gran Turismo games as they are over complicated and geek’e in the extreme.
Well here’s hoping that due to the supposed mass computing power of the Cell processor in the PS3 that GT5 will make use of it and come up with something that actually resembles real race drivers and not automatons.
PS. We should of had this discussion in the forum i am enjoying it.

well said stonie, someone is calling you fanboy but he doesn’t see that he’s the one blinded, really AI is important even in a car game. I also own own every console ps3 is coming home this friday, but if I would have to choose between GT or forza2 I’d go forza2.
