Kingdom Hearts III trailer and Nomura’s brief comments
With the release of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix + Re: Chain of Memories (a title nearly as epic as Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie) in Japan recently, a teaser trailer of Kingdom Hearts III was unlocked and unleashed onto the internet. Featuring footage of characters not from previous series, with a sinister and dark mood about it, questions have arisen as to its link with KH2. Tetsuya Nomura, producer of the Kingdom Hearts series, has revealed but only a few details in two Japanese interviews.
The secret trailer, unlocked by completing the Final Mix + version of KH2, features characters not before seen in any Kingdom Hearts game to date, excluding Mickey Mouse featured briefly at the end. When asked if the characters have any relation to the new game, Nomura replied simply, “They are people who have some relation to the new series. However, the next title won’t just be Kingdom Hearts III. If it were III, we wouldn’t call it a new series.”
What the heck does that mean? In another interview, Nomura was just as direct and slightly confusing. “First, it’s not Kingdom Hearts III. Of course, because we’re calling it a ‘new’ series, it won’t be KHIII. Also, it’s a series, so it probably won’t be just one title.”
When asked whether Riku and Sora would make an appearance he’s reported as laughingly saying, “I can’t say,” accompanied by hints that Xehanort, the main KH villain, would have something to do with the new series.
An announcement is due for the game later this year, however for now rumours are buzzing on the internet as to what exactly the new footage suggests. It appears we may not be seeing the original characters, and the video hints at many keyblade wielders battling it out against a frosty lead villain.

Man, I should rent KH2 again and try not to let it bore me to death this time so I can finish it.
Xehanort was the main bad dude form the series. Controller of the heartless, I think. Haven’t played them for a while either but was super excited watching the trailer.
How can he be the “main bad dude” if he’s only in one game, or was in he Riku’s part of KH:CoM?
He was a mastermind behind both games though he may not actually be the main protagonist of both.
Ah.
The story isn’t exactly the easiest to follow in both games, like any Square game, half of it comes straight from left-field ie. its BS but interesting.

what i think is that Riku next to the bold guy Riku has helped him more then once before and I mean he’s heartless and somewhat his nobodie his name is unknown to me since I have not the time to figure out what it means.. anyways I heard someone talk about what they are something to do with Souless… maybe thats roxas’s Souless includding the blue haired chick I mean they all used to be in black coats and there all pretty much dead or something it would just make sense kinda…

Has anyone ever read the Kingdom Hearts book? I just got it the other day, the story is just like the game. I am going to collect every book they have of Kingdom Hearts.

I too am slightly bewildered by Nomura’s confusing response. But the way I see it, Sora’s appearance in KH3 is a must, for at the ending of KH2 (after the credits), there was the letter from the King. Sora was staring at it somewhat blankly as though not full on the uptake of whatever the parchment said. Riku had a smirk as if not at all hesitant, while Kairi seemed to have a severe case of anxiety. Surely this will be explained!

Terra’s the Keyblade master before Sora, correct? Well, his friend is Ven, who just so happens to appear as if he could be Roxas’ twin. And Roxas is Sora’s nobody. Some connection? Possibly.

I’ve seen an interview with Nomura somewhere on the web. There was a translator of course, and this appears to be what the Director of KH said: “Kingdom Hearts is Sora’s story.” Without Sora, it just wouldn’t be Kingdom Hearts, now would it? (More explained below)

In that section of the interview I mentioned above, Nomura announced: “The Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series differ in many ways. But there’s one contrast thats most important. Final Fantasy games revolve around many characters and those characters’ stories, while Kingdom Hearts focuses on only one.”
