Gamers report noisy and defective PS3s
Reports have been coming in from gamers recently stating that their brand new Playstation 3 isn’t working out as well as they might have hoped. The problem appears to be coming from a batch of 60GB models that were manufactured in January. But what exactly is the problem with these models? Well, gamers have reported to have heard a high-pitched whine noise coming from their system, as well as some of them overheating.
Yeoua is reporting that many gamers are having problems with their consoles. One person in particular reported that they bought a Playstation 3 and noticed that it was making a strange noise. They returned it to the store that they purchased it from and got another. However, the second console had the exact problem. And unfortunately for this gamer, the third system they received also made this whining noise.
Those who reported these problems with their system have been able to narrow the problem down to a batch manufactured three months ago in January. The serial numbers carried by these systems are CE133190xxx and CE133212xxx. If you have purchased a PS3 recently, it’d be a good idea to check out the serial number on your console to see if yours was part of this batch.
While thankfully there hasn’t been an enormous amount of problems so far with Sony’s next generation games console, this could be the start of something nasty. If your console was part of the batch with these problems, you might want to keep a close eye on it and make sure that it doesn’t overheat or start making this whining noise. Feel free to let us know if you’ve experienced, or even if you are still currently experiencing, such problems.
A big thank you to nofear360 for submitting this!

Lol. what are u tryin to do? you fake ass bitch!
did you gamecube overheat or what nigga?
Who the fuck are you?
Cunt
yay we like the cunt word…fuck off Kotaku KUNT
beat me to it
On the back of my PS3 the Serial Number is 24 digits long and ends with CHCHxxx The serial numer is 2digits - 8digits - 7digits - 7digits
And the same serial number is on the box, I don’t get the serial style above??? Does anyone else with a PS3??
You have to check the last 7 digits mine is CE but not 133xxxxx
I just can’t be arsed to check mine, it’s not making any un-toward noise, unlike my Xbox360 which sounds like a helicopter spinning up in comparison now i have become accustomed to the very quiet PS3.
yeah it is very quiet…most noise it makes is when loading up a Blu_Ray movie
Erm. Don’t buy a PS3. Xbox 360 pwns
And has FAR FAR FAR more issues than any PS3.
[devils advocate]And FAR FAR FAR more games worth mentioning than any PS3.[/devils advocate]
To date … and by FAR FAR FAR more games I assume you mean … GoW, Dead Rising and … ?
Well PGR3, ISS, FIFA07 is another couple of the top of my head but if you want I can keep going.
And as for issues still never had one problem (and I mean not one) with my machine and it was a UK launch console so moving comfortably towards the two year mark without issue, which allowed me to play all the other worthwile games the 360 has instead of waiting for the PS3 for the pleasure of playing them after spending more on the console and more than full price (on the 360) for the title over a year after it was released.
Ahh what a pleasure that would be, call Gamestation now! Tell them to hold one back i’m coming now I have been convinced (to buy one in perhaps another year once the price warrents the purchase and there is something worth playing for more than a day with a live facility that actually allows me to interact with other players in game)
Well then your very lucky, look around the net its a very common post about the xbox. Try looking at AV forums or UK site Watchdog (enough said)
And the games you mention are as a result of a 1 year lead in the market place, which is root cause of the above problem. M$ just didnt give a shite about the consumer all they cared about was beating PS3 to the market. (not saying that Sony are saints by the way but atleast the stuff works)
This will ultimatly be the 360’s downfall
I must say I’m quite happy with my PS3. I haven’t experienced any problems at all. I’ve played it for countless hours and even left it on one night while downloading a game, yet no overheating issues ever occurred. So far, this is a solid system and props to Sony for making a quality product. The games will eventually come, so just give it time. Every new system experiences a waiting period for great games to follow. Of all the systems, the PS3 in my opinion is worth the price when you add it everything up. So the PS3 gets my vote.
My PS3 has this noise problem and is not in the range suggested.
