Four Capcom Games coming to PSN

Playstation Network game announcements have been few and far between it seems. Thankfully, Capcom has changed that with their annual Gamers’ Day conference revealing four new titles that are in development as part of the company’s new focus on downloadable content. The list of games coming soon to the Playstation Store from Capcom include Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, and Talisman.

It’s no surprise that after the commercial success of Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting on XBLA, Capcom would soon realize the potential for releasing their most beloved franchises on digital platforms like the Playstation Network and XBLA. The company’s new initiative was declared by Jack Symon, director of brand marketing at Capcom Entertainment:

“We intend to be a major player in this space by using a combination of classic Capcom IP, licensed IP and, in the future, harnessing some of the biggest names in game development to create new classic experiences.”

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

With the help of Udon Entertainment, Capcom plans to bring Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix [insert additional adjectives] to next-generation consoles and the PC this fall boasting newly created 1080p HD graphics, several new game modes, improved game balance, new stage backgrounds, and online play. For those unfamiliar with the Puzzle Fighter series, it’s essentially a gem puzzle game that features super deformed characters from classic Capcom franchises, Street Fighter and Darkstalkers. The series has created quite a following in the past 10 years and for those that happen to be Puzzle Fighter elitist sand prefer the game unchanged, Udon plans to offer the option of playing the game sans improvements.

Their second offering to the 3 previously mentioned platforms this Fall, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Much like the reincarnation of Puzzle Fighter, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be fitted with updated 1080p visuals redrawn by Udon Entertainment, the company responsible for the official US Street Fighter series of comics. The game will include both online and offline competition for one to two players. Street Fighter looks to bolster the growing fighting game library on the PS3. We’ve already got a taste of next-gen fighting with Tekken DR and Virtua Fighter 5, and just recently some classic fighting greatness with Mortal Kombat II.

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil

Capcom has acquired the rights to produce a game based on WizKids’ popular strategy board game, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, for PSN and XBLA in the Fall of 2007. As a member of the Alliance of Free Planets, players will battle to free the Solar System with up to four players cooperatively offline and online. This top-down arcade shooter gives players control over moment to the left thumbstick and shooting to the right stick through various space levels. Rocketmen looks to feature cell-shaded graphics (pictured above) and intense action gameplay that is sure to please many arcade shooter fans.

In addition to Rocketmen, Capcom also plan on releasing an adaptation of Games Workshop’s classic board game known as Talisman. Talisman is a fantasy role-playing board game with over 25 characters to choose from as you and three others jump online to dungeon crawl and battle deadly creatures. This one however will stick to its board game roots with a 3D representation of the playing board. As of right now, that’s pretty much all we know of Talisman. No screenshots have been provided just yet as the game will be making its way onto PSN, XBLA, and the PC much later than the three others, in Q4 2007.

Any PSN announcement is a good announcement here at Playstatic. Now that we’ve just got our hands on classic fighting game, Mortal Kombat II, the addition of Street Fighter II to the growing fighting game library and Capcom’s other games are sure to please many Sony gamers this year. Do you share in the excitement?

Whoot Super puzzle Fighter is my favorite ‘Tetris’ style game will definitely be getting this so i can play against my mates. Also the Standard Street fighter II will be purchased as i love this as well and if it’s made to make use of the new console’s (unlike the XBLA version) and it will come with the added bonus of being played on a joypad that actually has a D-pad that works. All round great news.
