God of War 2 mystery website revealed - more mystery
The God of War 2 mystery website is no longer a mystery. Following the countdown, islandofrhodes.org burst forth onto the web providing … wait for it … developer diaries? But guess what happened next! Intrigued fans hammered away at the GoW2 website and discovered something hidden within, revealing the secrets online.
When the clock ticked over on April 12, nothing happened, really. The islandofrhodes.org website contained nothing more than developer diaries and disappointment for fans. It was suspected the website may announce God of War 3, or something as exciting to come, but it didn’t. At least, not right away.
GameFaqs forumites were curious and began plugging away at the website after noticing some Greek letters hidden throughout one of the pages. The result? A whole swag of hidden content located within.
Darksidez at the GameFaqs forum posted the locations of the symbols that needed to be clicked in order, spelling KRATOS;
- Kappa (under iota, middle right)
- Rho (upper left corner)
- Alpha (bottom right, left of soldier’s waist)
- Theta (under upsilon)
- Omega (upper right)
- Sigma (bottom right, by soldier’s foot)
The next few pages hold another video, a slide puzzle (random generated with a few different patterns) and a page detailing specifications on an Enhanced Definition mode within God of War 2. The developers happily state that following the Beta testing, the programming team figured they could make use of left over VRAM and created a more HDTV friendly mode for dubbed “HD-Mode”. The higher-resolution images runs at 480p with full size buffers, not quite high-definition but a definite improvement over the standard (similar to the way Gran Tourismo 1 on Playstation featured a “High-Res” mode).
To access this particular mode, follow the instructions below;
“As the game boots up, before even the white text ‘SCEA Presents’ Legal screen comes up. Hold down L1 + L2 + L3 (thumbstick button) + Square + Circle simultaneously. If you did it right the legal screen will show up in a nice shade of purple. If you want to run in 480p you are still going to need to set that up through the menus as you do normally. This cheat will work on the PS2 and also the PS3. If you are doing this on the PS3 you may need to plug the controller in using the USB cable, as the controller is a little slow to come to life when the game boots.”
Hitting the “You Seek an Audience with the Fates” button at the bottom of this HD-Mode page, you’re greeted by yet another countdown timer.
You can bet this second countdown timer isn’t going to provide more developer diaries. As you can see the page starts with ‘G…’ Kotaku predicts “God of War III: Chains of Love” and Joystiq reckons “Gout of War”. God of War III is probably the safest bet, but we’ll have to wait to find out.
