Killzone 2 beta confirmed
With all the fuss around the Halo 3 beta on the Xbox 360, Guerilla Games thought it was a good idea to give the Playstation community something to look forward too as well. A Killzone 2 beta has been more or less confirmed by Guerilla Games’ lead tester, Seb Downie.
On the official Killzone forum, Downie said that every multiplayer game should have a public beta, and so will Killzone 2. Unfortunately no further information has been disclosed, however various sources state that more information will probably be revealed at E3 next month.
Of course there is going to be a public beta, I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended.

I like betas myself and will sign up for this one as soon as I get a chance. It gives you the chance to play games which won’t come out anytime soon and while doing that you even help the developers improve the game.

I think it’s good to have a beta for any high profile game. It will help relieve the high expectations and iron out any bugs that may choke the game. It also garners feedback from all types of gamers. Having a beta will also help increase the success of the game, so all in all, this is a good move by Sony. Now it just all depends on if they can deliver on their promises. So far, everything looks promising, even the Home Beta is shaping up to be a great online community for meeting new gamers and making new friends. I have to give props to Sony for their vision of the gaming community. They are in it for the long haul, and I like that about a company.
Sure I’ll be one of the first people to sign up for this, but it doesnt change the fact that it is a desperate move on Guerillas or Sonys part (probably both). At this point, they need anything they can to get people excited about owning a PS3. There are alot of games coming out that gamers want to get there hands on. But they are all so far off its hard to stay enthusiastic. This of course applies to both MS and Sony. Both platforms needs more demos and betas this summer.
I love public beta’s, but when a game is just using it to publicise because it’s rival did it makes it one big ass copy cat. that’s right, if you remember killzone was supposed to be the “Halo Killer” and turned out to be a BIG POS. hope this game is way better than the fisrt. and i want to see actually gameplay, i’m sick of Sony showing a bunch of pre rendered shit!!!

Unfortunatly Halo is not a standard CONSOLE FPS as most console FPS’s end up sucking.
I’m not Halo’s biggest fan but having played i can see that everything about that game has been scrutinized and tweaked until what you have is an incredibly solid piece of code especially as far as player control and level,weapon balancing etc.It was the first FPS to play well on a console in my opinion.
As far as the hype goes,dont subscribe,these are all just video games.
Halo IS a standard FPS shooter. It doesn’t incorporate anything new, at all, it just does it better than some. Take Gears of War for instance, the cover system has been done in games before, it just did it extremely well and happened to be one of the best looking games. GoW did what it did as a standard shooter, but did it better than anyone has before setting a new standard. Halo just happens to be “one of” the best console based shooters available. The only thing it did differently was be slick and incorporate the Warthog. That was about it. PC gamers have been enjoying far more explosive and adventurous FPS than consolers have for ages.
The launch of the Killzone public beta is NOT in response to Halo 3. Sure, it might come at a time when its competitor is doing a similar thing, but thats good marketing and good timing on Sony’s behalf. It will be even better if it can establish Killzone 2 now as a premier online shooter now.
As many of the above comments have pointed out, making available a public beta is probably the future of game development. With more voices providing feedback on how the game can be improved and establishing a fan base, you can be garunteed the final product has been reworked, with the bugs being ironed out.

Even if it is a coincidence, it’s very very BAD timing at a time when Sony are desperately trying to prove that they’re not playing catch-up. Because to even the non-fanboys among us, it looks EXACTLY like it’s a copycat move.
If you really want to talk about copycat, what about the “Elite”? Isn’t that just Microsoft’s version of a PS3 wannabe? MS is so desperate that it will give it’s fanbase another iteration of it’s console, only to play catch up with the PS3, cuz the PS3 got it right the first time.
If they got it right first time why do they have 5-6 SKU’s (can’t remember exactly how many now but the number keeps growing)
As for it being a copycat move, don’t really know about that but with so many games being played online now public multiplayer beta’s make perfect sense. Obviously they need to be able to test the multiplayer element and how it will perform, sure they could do the beta testing in house with 30-40 people but that won’t really put any stress on the code.
Whereas if they release a public multiplayer beta it allows them to stress the code and get a far better idea how elements will perform in the production release than what they would get from in house beta testing.
So is it a copy cat move? Dunno, might be, not really bothered there are better reasons for doing it anyway than just trying to copy a rival. To be honest the more beta’s that go public to allow widespread testing the more on the ball the release code will be for these games so long may it continue (and at the very least you get a shot of a game before you can buy it so at least you know if you will want to buy it).

but xbox360 divided by 2 is 180. you lose 180 numbers compared to 1.5 if your xbox is cut in half. clearly you must accept my point as an arguement
