Full HD resolution for Blu-ray on DVI

Due to all kinds of copyright protections on Blu-Ray movie discs, it’s impossible for some people to view them in their full resolution in the future. PS3Fanboy found a gadget that can circumvent this protection so you can have crystal clear images without having to cough up a fat wad of cash for a new TV.

This gadget only comes in handy for people who have non-HDCP certified monitors or TVs with a DVI input. Part of the HDCP system is the Image Constraint Token (ICT) which downscales the image to 540P when using non-compliant displays, but this’ll only happen after 2012 because the Token is ‘recorded’ on the disc says Hollywood. After that you’ll be royally screwed with your TV because movies you buy after that date will only play in 540P. This Gameswitch device basically removes all the HDCP crap from the signal and outputs it on the other end. Unfortunately HDMI cable also contains audio signals, but DVI doesn’t so you’ll have to use the optical output on the PS3 if you want to enjoy the sound.

You can get it at this website for 27,800 Japanese Yen which is around 230 USD or 170 Euros.

Most sexy TVs have one or more HDMI inputs nowadays, but if you have one without, it’s good to know that there’s a solution to get rid of this retarded DRM crap. All in favor of removing it forever say aye!
