New Rock Band details from Game Informer
Last week we reported to you about details of the upcoming game Rock Band. This week we have a load more details from this month’s Game Informer magazine for you thanks to a member at NeoGAF posting all the details from the magazine.
As we already knew, there will be four different campaigns. These are Guitar, Drum, Bass and Vocal. There will also be a large co-op Band campaign for you to play with your friends. Speaking of playing with friends, Rock Band will allow up to four players to play together online which is a really nice feature. People who aren’t great at these games will be happy to know that they can even choose their own difficulty level online.
The fret-boards in Rock Band will be transparent. This will allow you to see the background visuals. Those playing the guitar will be on the left of the screen, the bass player will be on the right, the drum player will be in the middle and the vocals will scroll across the top of the screen. Guitar and bass players should also note that there will now be 10 frets. Five of these will be used like normal during a song, while the other five will be used for solos.
The drums seem to be pretty well done. You will have to use drum sticks to hit a coloured pad in front you as well as kicking a pedal that will be attached to the drum kit. Drummers will be able to do things like fills in their free-form section. If the perform well enough they will activate the drummer’s version of star power. Speaking of star power, those playing the guitar will be able to use the whammy bar to activate their version of star power.
If you are worried about playing with your friends and failing, don’t be. This is because if one person fails, the rest of the band continue playing until either the song is over or everyone fails. But if you do fail you can get back into the action if a band member activates star power. If all of the band do manage to finish a song they will go into a free-form jam session.
As well as being able to create a logo for your band, you will also be able to create the characters that will in the band. You’ll be able to customize your characters and decide what instruments they will play. As well as deciding that, you will have the choice of different mo-cap stage movements for each instrument. This will allow you to select how your character will move about on the stage.
The guitars for the game will be an exact replica of a Fender Strat. As we knew already the Xplorer guitar will work with Rock Band. At some stage there will be an official Rock Band microphone and other USB microphones will be supported. The design of the drum kit isn’t final but at the moment it is made up of four pads, a kick pedal and legs for it to stand on.
These are just some of the details in this month’s Game Informer. The rest can be read on NeoGAF or in the magazine itself. Rock Band is shaping up to be an awesome game. It is due for release later this year for both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
