The Darkness to be patched in August
One of the main faults that The Darkness had was the multiplayer side of things, let down by lag that renders the game almost unplayable. The good news is that the developers plan to fix the problem, and hope to have a patch out sometime next month.
According to the official MySpace page, the main cause of the problems is the hosts’ bandwidth speed, and there are the following recommendations to help fix current issues:
Check your bandwidth speeds and follow these guidelines. This should ensure that you minimize or completely eliminate the lag.
- below a 1.5 megabit/s upstream, host only up to 3 players
- 1.5 - 4 megabit/s upstream, host only up to 4 players
- above 4 megabit/s upstream, host up to 8 players.
It is said that they can fix it anyway, but for the time being use their guidelines above.
The post also explains that powers from the single player game will not be patched into the multiplayer, as that would severly unbalance the game. However, should a sequel be done (which we know will happen, it always does), then the idea will be thought about.
Now some bad news for those of you who’ve been asking - No, there will not be any patches or updates that will bring Darkness powers into the multiplayer games. I’ve already told some of you individually why, but I’ll tell the lot of you what’s going on. Simply, it would throw the balancing out of whack and would not be fun. The Darkness Powers make you reallly, REALLY strong. Since single player was our focus we didn’t work on a way to make the Darkness Powers feasible. It would have taken A LOT of time to get those powers to work in a mutliplayer game that would not have been cheap and frustrating. HOWEVER, if we do a sequel that is definitely something that we will do our best to include… especially if The Brotherhood wills it enough.
Keep an eye out for the patch in August, and keep your eye on the official MySpace page for any other important details.

Picked up the game today. The case contained a note saying: “If you need you change the bandwidth settings for your game please note that the displayed text within the MP options menu is in fact the wrong way around. Setting it to above 4MB’s will actually be below 4MB’s and vice versa”.
