Blazing Lizard, founded by former members of Volition, has announced that they have set out to tackle the decades-old question: “Who would win; Pirates or Ninjas?” And just how do they tend to solve this mind-boggling question? By facing off the two historical icons in a good old game of Dodgeball, of course.

This Dodgeball edition is going to be one of many more planned in the Pirates vs. Ninjas series. The game lets eight players choose from up to five unique teams (Pirates, Ninjas, and three more that are to be revealed), and compete against each other in a flat out fight-to-the-finish match of “the ultimate sport of champions”. Unlike your regular game of Dodgeball, teams won’t be restricted to one side of the court, as they will be able to wander around six well-detailed arenas. Additionally, characters will sport combat moves and special abilities for a more action-packed spin on the sport.

Pirates vs. Ninjas™ Dodgeball is being developed using Infyrno™, Blazing Lizard’s next-gen proprietary game engine. It allows for sweet gameplay with an art style and theme suited for all age groups. There will be Exhibition, Story, and Challenge modes and multiplayer support for 4 players Local / 8 players Online, and 4-player Co-op modes.

Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball will become available in the first quarter of 2008. The platforms that the downloadable game will be appearing on with that nice set of features are yet to be declared.
