40GB Playstation 3 coming to US, 80GB reduced in price
Not entirely unexpected, the 40GB Playstation 3 will now also be released in North America. The already existing 80GB pack will be reduced in price to cost $499. You’ll have to wait a few weeks for the new unit as it’s going to be released on November 2nd, but the 80GB pack’s new price is effective immediately.
More good news is that the press release doesn’t say anything about the 80GB unit being discontinued in contrary to the 60GB unit in Europe. However, the bad news is that in the 40GB the same changes have been made as in Europe, which are the removal of backwards compatibility feature for Playstation 2 games, two USB ports and the card reader. Jack Tretton, President and CEO, SCEA had to say the following about it:

I find it a little strange they have taken out backwards compatibility but to be honest I almost never use the BC on PS3 and 360. The only games I have played are Halflife 2 for xbox on 360 and Halo 2, thats it.
if you threw out your ps2 thats your own stupid fault… if not just play them on there :S thats a good little consol. and i played ps2 games recently i cant stand them they looks so bad, im used to the high life now
